Senate’s Decides to Defer DeVos Appointment… But As Noted in Previous Posts, This MAY Not BE Good News

January 23, 2017

This morning, Politico reported that Senator Lamar Alexander announced his committee was waiting to take action on the appointment of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education to give his committee members the time they need to digest her financial records. The fact that she had to shed 102 investments to avoid a conflict of interest is a good indication that she is deeply entangled in the privatization movement and a good intimation that she is deeply invested in anti-public school groups. But as noted in earlier posts, Democratic party members might want to be careful what they wish for because some of the Republican operatives could find an experienced academic who buys the theories that Ms. DeVos (and other Milton Friedman acolytes) advocates and that person would glide through and do every bit as much damage as Ms. DeVos might.
