Kansas Redux: GOP’s Progressive Tax Plan Might Leave Democrats In the Dust

June 12, 2017

“Finally, Something ISN’T the Matter with Kansas” Michael Tomasky’s op ed piece in today’s NYTimes, describes the Kansas Legislature’s abandonment of GOP Governor Brownback’s misbegotten supply side tax cuts and their replacement with a GOP crafted progressive tax package. After reading the article, though, I fear that the Democratic Party in that State might find itself completely marginalized. If the new GOP tax plan works and restores the government to a functional level AND the GOP selects a relative moderate who supports this new tax to run for Governor, what will the Democrats platform be? They will be defined by the GOP by their social stances… and that may be the only distinction between them and the GOP. If I were a member of the Democrat party in KS I would be hoping that another pro-trickle-down theorist like Brownback is the candidate in the next election!
