Do Tuesday’s Election Results Signify a Repudiation of “Reform” as Well as a Repudiation of President Trump?

Off-year elections are seldom bell-weathers of emerging trends… but as Diane Ravitch and Jeff Bryant report, two elections might signify a change in direction at the national as well as state and local levels.

Diane Ravitch had three posts on the elections that are heartening.

One post described the victory of a progressive school board candidate who was outspent by an incumbent “reform” candidate by roughly 6:1. It seems that anti-profiteering voters are awake!

Another post had a link to a Washington Post article that described a string of victories won by progressives, most of whom were NOT white males. It seems that suburbanites and racial and ethnic minorities are awake!

Ms. Ravistch’s third post had a link to Jeff Bryant’s post that details the Virginia governor’s race that he asserts was the result of a repudiation of not only President Trump, but also of the “reform” movement advocated by mainstream Democrats! It seems that voters are getting wise to the test-and-punish methods beloved by “reformers”.

Are these election results an awakening of a group of voters who sat out the last election believing that ll was well with our country and Mr. Trump had no chance of victory? Or does is reflect an awakening of voters who are deeply disturbed about the privatization of public services and the widening gap between the rich and poor? Stay tuned….
