More Than Money: A Tech Giant’s Commitment to Public Schools

October 4, 2018

This model of philanthropy is helpful. Based on what I’ve read, it appears that instead of the the omniscient philanthropist choosing how funds will be spent, Salesforce.org relies on the expertise of the school district’s administrators and teachers… and they give directly to the public schools systems governed by elected officials. Philanthropists will always be a force… but in this case it appears that they are leveraging ideas developed “on the ground” instead of ideas imposed from on high.

Salesforce’s commitment to Bay Area schools now totals more than $50 million over the course of its five-year partnership with its local school districts. But grants aren’t the only way that the company helps.
