It’s bad enough that the President repeatedly leans on teachers to return to classrooms and expose themselves to a disease that is still rampant in this country, but he compounds this with three other egregious assertions:

1. This will soon go away (or maybe will eventually go away— it depends on how accurate he wants to be at the time)
2. Children don’t get the disease, a bald-faced lie that even FaceBook wouldn’t let him get away with
3. It’s too expensive to provide PPE for students or teachers, which flies in the face of reason given the millions he and the provided to corporations to keep their businesses afloat.

I am noting that school districts in our region have a hodgepodge of reopening plans ranging from “all remote” to “all in person” and everything in between. We are about to witness a regional experiment on how the disease spreads. I hope that our region’s successful containment continues even as 2000 college students and their families gather on campus in the weeks ahead.
