Over the last few days, I’ve posted tangentially about HB 544 in NH, a bill that intended to “…prevent educators from teaching about systemic racism and sexism in public schools and state-funded programs.” The bill ultimately and deservedly died before it was voted upon… but… in a move stealthily impose this stricture on schools, the GOP legislators have appended the bill to the budget. As the article notes:

The bill is an echo of a federal executive order issued by President Donald Trump in November 2020 that restricted federal institutions from using curriculum about systemic racism, white privilege and other race and gender bias issues.

These GOP legislators seem to believe that by not teaching about “systemic racism, white privilege, and gender bias” they will disappear… or in the case of some legislators thinking it doesn’t exist to begin with so why bother to teach about it at all.

The real question now is whether our Governor will let this poorly worded legislation ride through on the tails of a budget he will need to sign. We’re about to find out how much of a Trump supporter he is.
