Georgia State Board of Education Boldly Declares that Neither the State of Georgia Nor the United States Are Racist… Which Should Make Stacey Abrams Rest Easy

June 5, 2021

The pushback against Critical Race Theory continues apace in GOP led states with the Georgia State Board of Education determining by a 11-2 vote that neither the State of Georgia nor the United States are inherently or explicitly racist. As AP writer Sudhin Thanawala reported on this development on Thursday:

Georgia’s education board on Thursday approved a resolution that says the U.S. and Georgia are not racist and students should not be taught that racism or slavery are anything but deviations from the country’s “authentic founding principles.

The measure — approved by an 11-2 vote — was introduced amid a national reckoning with race that has prompted legislatures in Republican-controlled statesacross the country to try to define what race-related ideas can be taught in public schools and colleges. It also came on the heels of a letter that the Georgia governor — who appoints the board members — sent last month encouraging them to take such action.

The vote by the State Board evidently supersedes the US Constitution, which most conservatives view as outlining the “authentic founding principles”. In that document, in the original Article I, each slave living in America was to be counted in the census, but only as 3/5ths of a person. But in the minds of Governor Kemp and 11 members of the Georgia State Board of Education THAT particular phrase was (ahem) not an “authentic founding principle” .
